Seven Killings — The Raw Pressure

The most feared star in BaZi, and the most prized: force without ceremony, power before politeness — a blade that becomes a scalpel in the right hands.

Relation Controls the Day Master Polarity Same as Day Master Family The Officer group

Seven Killings (七杀, Qī Shā) — also called the Indirect Officer (偏官, Piān Guān) — is the same-polarity stem of the element that controls your Day Master. It stands for raw pressure: competition, urgency, danger, command. It is the only Ten God named after destruction — and the one classical masters most wanted to see, provided it was handled.

The calculation

How to find your Seven Killings

Every Ten God starts from the Day Master. Seven Killings is the stem that attacks yours from the same side of the yin-yang divide — yang against yang, yin against yin. For a Yang Wood (甲) Day Master, Metal controls Wood; the yang Metal stem is 庚 (Gēng) — so 庚 is the Seven Killings. Count seven stems forward from your Day Master and you land on it: that count is where the name comes from.

Where it sits matters: Seven Killings in the month branch or on the month stem is the loudest; hidden in the day branch it runs closest to the bone. The free BaZi calculator labels the god of every stem in your chart.

Core themes

What Seven Killings feels like from the inside

People with strong, handled Seven Killings describe the same inner weather: the world feels slightly sharpened. Deadlines are not threats but fuel. They are calm precisely where others panic — the emergency room at 3 a.m., the closing argument, the final minute of a tied game. Classical texts put it in four characters: 有威有胆 — "has authority, has gall."

Favorable

When the blade becomes a scalpel

Classical doctrine is unusually precise here: 有制为偏官,无制为七杀 — "controlled, it is the Indirect Officer; uncontrolled, it is Seven Killings." The star never changes; what changes is whether the chart gives it a handle. Three named structures are the handles:

A Day Master strong enough to "carry" the star turns all of this into rank, skill and reputation. The classical praise is not subtle: 杀有制,贵不可言 — with Killings properly controlled, nobility beyond words.

Unfavorable

When the pressure wins

The same star in a weak, unprepared chart reads as a life under mild siege: chronic stress, controlling bosses, accident-prone risk-taking, aggression turned inward. Two aggravating patterns get named: 官杀混杂 (Officer and Killings mixed — pulled by rules and by force at once, pleasing no one) and 杀重身轻 (Killings heavy, self light — carrying weight the frame cannot bear). The remedy in every case is the same: strengthen the Day Master, or build one of the controlling structures above. In life terms: train, or leave the arena.

Career & wealth

Where Seven Killings people win

Any field that metabolizes pressure: surgery and emergency medicine, law enforcement and litigation, military and security, competitive sport, high-stakes trading, turnaround management, crisis leadership. Money-wise, Seven Killings earns through conquest, not stewardship — the deal won, the market taken, the turnaround completed. It pairs naturally with Wealth stars (杀为用而财生杀 — wealth feeds the killings), which is the classical picture of money made by boldness. The failure mode is equally clear: leverage, vendettas and bets placed to prove something.

Relationships

Seven Killings in love

Intensity is the keyword. Seven Killings people love like they compete — selectively, totally, with a protective edge that partners either find safest-in-the-room or find exhausting. For women, classical texts read the Officer stars as husband stars: Direct Officer the proper, orderly husband; Seven Killings the intense, magnetic, dangerous one. The old books warned against it. Read in modern terms, the warning was about power imbalance in an era with no exit — the real lesson for any Seven Killings-influenced love life is boundaries, not avoidance: the same magnetism that makes the relationship vivid is what, unmanaged, makes it volatile.

FAQ

Questions, answered

No — it is pressure and power in raw form. Uncontrolled it reads as conflict and dangerous risk; controlled by Eating God or transformed by Resource, it becomes the signature of surgeons, officers, executives and crisis leaders. Classical masters prized a well-handled Seven Killings above a comfortable chart.

It is the same-polarity stem of the element that controls your Day Master — for a Yang Wood (甲) Day Master, yang Metal 庚. Counting seven stems forward from your Day Master lands on it, which is where the name comes from. The free calculator on this site labels every pillar's god.

Classical texts read it as the intense, magnetic partner star — as opposed to the proper Direct Officer husband. The modern reading: attraction to intensity and high-stakes personalities, with boundaries as the lesson. The old warning describes 12th-century marriage, not a curse.

Fields that metabolize pressure: surgery, emergency medicine, law enforcement, litigation, military, competitive sports, high-stakes trading, turnaround and crisis leadership. The common thread is decisive action under real consequences.

Nothing is wrong — edge and urgency just aren't built into your defaults. Many people manufacture them with deadlines, competitions and physical challenges. A natal chart without a god is not a missing life; the theme can also switch on when the star arrives in a 10-year luck cycle.
